Every tooth has a nerve inside called the pulp. Unfortunately the pulp can get irritated by decay, trauma, cracks, deep fillings etc and cause us toothache. Sometimes it can get infected, and create a dental abscess. In these situations, to save the tooth and alleviate your symptoms you may require root canal treatment.
Root canal involves the removal of the painful/infected pulp and disinfection of the tooth. This kills any bacteria and gives the tooth the best chance of recovery. The dentist then cleans, shapes and measures the thin tubes (root canals) inside the roots where the pulp used to be. The root canals are then filled and the tooth is usually restored with a crown or onlay (3/4 crown) for strength.
At Coxhoe Dental Practice we have invested in state of the art equipment to help reduce the time root canal takes and also to increase its outcome and predictability.
