Dental hygiene is the cornerstone of good oral health and we actively encourage our patients to visit our dental hygiene therapists on a regular basis. Recent studies have shown that approximately 80% of UK adults suffer from some form of gum disease (periodontitis) and it is one of the most common oral health problems, second only to tooth decay. Seeing a dental hygiene therapist on a regular basis will not only reduce your risk of developing tooth decay and gum disease, it will also ensure that you protect your smile and keep it looking clean and bright.
The hygiene therapist’s main role is to professionally clean the teeth and gums for the patient. They also give advice on diet and preventing dental decay. The hygiene therapist will work with your dentist to provide care tailored to your needs. We firmly believe that prevention is always better than a cure, and regular hygiene visits are an essential part of this preventative approach.
Each appointment lasts 30 minutes and is specifically tailored to your oral health needs involving:
Most of our patients choose to see the hygiene therapist one or two times a year. However, for patients suffering from gum disease (periodontitis) your dentist/hygiene therapist may recommend a more intensive course of treatment. This involves number of hygiene appointments over a short period of time followed by schedule of regular maintenance appointments to monitor and check your progress. Both our Denplan Essentials and Denplan Care payments plans offer a great way to budget for your dental hygiene appointments.
Air abrasion is a drill free technique, which can be performed by your hygiene therapist. It works through a combination of air, sodium bi-carbonate and a jet of water to remove external staining caused through everyday things such as tea, coffee, red wine and smoking. It produces great results without any risk of damage to your teeth. Completely painless, Air Abrasion will significantly improve tooth staining, leaving your mouth clean and fresh after treatment.
