Invisalign: Made To Move

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a series of aligners that slowly move your teeth into a more desirable position.

What are the benefits over traditional braces?

  • Virtually invisible: Gone are the unsightly metal brackets and wires often associated with braces. In their place is a clear custom fitted aligner that is barely visible when worn.
  • Removable: Unlike most orthodontic systems, you can remove Invisalign easily and discreetly when needed. This makes everyday tasks like eating, and cleaning your teeth much easier.
  • Comfortable: Every time you change your aligner you will feel slight pressure on your teeth. This is completely normal and means the Invisalign is working. However, you will not feel any pain as you would with a traditional metal brace.

Can anyone have treatment?

Your dentist will tell you if you are able to have treatment. The process is very quick and simply involves taking a digital photograph of your teeth before entering it into the Invisalign tool, which provides an answer within 24 hours.

Is treatment for adults only?

No – as long as the adult teeth are through you could have Invisalign treatment. It is a great option for young adults who may not qualify for NHS orthodontic treatment.

How long does it take?

Depending on the number of aligners you need and how much we need to move your teeth treatment usually takes between 3 – 4 months.

How does the process work?

  1. Once we have confirmed that you are eligible for treatment, we will take photos, X-rays and digital scans, or a dental impression, of your teeth. These records will be used to create a ClinCheck 3D treatment plan, just for you.
  2. After being custom-made and shipped to our surgery, you’ll receive a series of aligners to wear every day and change at home — on average every week.
  3. You’ll visit us around every 4 weeks to monitor progress and receive new aligners. After finishing your treatment plan, retainers will be required to maintain your new smile.

After treatment:

  • Orthodontic treatment is an investment in your smile and the results will last a lifetime providing you wear your retainers
  • There are two types of retainer:
  1. Removable retainers – these are clear and thin custom made trays that are very similar to your aligners and are usually worn at night. We use Invisalign’s excellent Vivera retainers.
  2. Fixed – bonded retainers – consists of a thin orthodontic wire that is bonded behind your teeth so that it is not visible
  • Before your Invisalign treatment, your dentist will recommend which type of retainer will be best suited to your needs. In most cases, removable retainers are the best option and we recommend more than one set because any time without your retainers could harm your results.
  • Cosmetic dentistry is changing and more and more patients are opting for ABB (Align, Bleach and Bond). After your Invisalign treatment you may want to consider tooth whitening or perhaps some composite bonding to add the finishing touches to your smile.
